A Santa Cruz native who consistently does well on the NSL's California Cup, Horn is one of the best surfers at Steamer Lane in Santa Cruz. Horn is a power surfer who excels at big carves and big turns in big surf. When he is not surfing Kieran works in the marketing department for O'Neill.

Representing Northern California at the 2005 X Games on team West Coast is Santa Cruz local Keiran Horn. Keiran will be an X Games Rookie in 2005, but he is no stranger to the game, having competed for 2 years in the NSL.

  I think the first time I really fell in love with the ocean was when I was 3 years old on a small beach in Maui.  I would stand on my little foam boogie board and let the surge of the small waves crash around my ankles.  I spent all day in and around the water and when it came time for us to pack up and leave I would scream bloody murder and throw a tantrum like you’ve never seen.  Well it’s nice to know that some things in life never change and I still have the same stoke I had when was a tiny tot and can’t count how many times I’ve begged my tow-in partner for just one more wave...

I grew up in Aptos which is a small town 15 minutes south of Santa Cruz and learned to surf when I was 10 years old.  My dad was an avid surfer and waterman and he signed me up for some lessons with local legend Richard Schmidt.  With the help of my Dad and Richard I was able to stand up on my first wave and immediately began trimming for the shoulder.  With my hero’s hooting me on I felt on top of the world and have been hooked on surfing ever since.

I began entering professional competitions around age 17 and started traveling on the WQS (world qualifying series) from about 19 to 22.  I made some rounds and got a few good results but I knew my passion lied somewhere else...  I had always loved doing things that involved adrenaline, whether it  be rock climbing, sky diving, or summiting mountains, so big wave surfing came quite naturally.

Fortunately for me I had a ton of world class surfers that lived in and around Santa Cruz that I could emulate.  I watched all videos from Mavericks and studied all the radically aerials until my eyes bled.  Soon enough I was out there surfing with my heros charging big waves and trying to push the limits in any and all conditions.  I’m truly grateful that I’ve found my passion in life and I am excited to see what barriers I can break next.

Julian Sekon, a.k.a. Sunset

Julian Sekon has many talents. On the modeling runway in Brazil, at the local gym, and in the water, he’s a standout. Julian works hard at whatever he desires. After getting a little burned out on the surf scene, Julian disappeared to Brazil for a while to find his true passion in life. When he had returned, you could tell he’d found it, and it was surfing in the cold waters of S.C. I think I’ve seen him in the water almost every day since then.

Why’d Julian go to Brazil? He said he needed to take a break from everything. The whole experience has helped him learn a lot about life and has improved his surfing.

I remember when we were groms, he used to push me and the other groms every day. He’d give us shit if we wouldn’t paddle out on the big days, get us psyched up for contests, make us crack it in the morning, and heckle us about the flaws in our surfing style so we’d get better. When I was twelve, I had a huge, wide stance. Julian gave me so much shit about it, until one day he scraped all the wax off of the upper part of my board, and made me go surf. At the time I thought he was being a bully, but now I thank him for it. He’s a great motivator. Здесь можно будет почитать. Размышления о деятелях музыки – прошлого и настоящего; размышления по поводу самой музыки – как классической, так и популярной; статьи, написанные по тому или иному случаю и т.д. Все это, однако, будет объединено одним общим контекстом – взглядом музыканта, живущего в России в не самое лучшее для нее историческое время, старающегося не очень обременять свою совесть и пытающегося разглядеть положительное там, где его, кажется, и нет. И возможно, - вследствие этого обстоятельства - некоторые из моих высказываний могут приобрести некий заостренный, полемический колорит, - я буду, как могу, стараться избавиться от этого «недостатка».

Да что ж поделаешь? – Время, когда «люди начнут летать быстрее птиц» – а оно как раз и наступило! – никак не может считаться простым. И разговаривать о музыке в это время языком «больного сердечной недостаточностью» для меня не представляется возможным.  

Будет очень здорово, если вы на этом сайте активируете вкладку «контакты» и выскажетесь по какому-либо вопросу, так как для меня очень важно услышать, как это сейчас говорят, «адекватный ответ» на то, что особенно меня беспокоит. (На темы иные – я попробую не писать вовсе. «Если не жить современностью – нельзя писать» – сказал Александр Блок, будучи абсолютно зрелым поэтом, и слова эти для меня очень важны.) Мы сделаем этот диалог открытым, и получится нечто вроде форума, – о современном музыкальном искусстве!
